HOW TO CARE AND CLEAN SILVER
WHY DOES SILVER DARKEN
Due to the oxidation process that this precious metal undergoes with the passage of time, and due to contact with sulfur present in the environment, in some foods or in chemical products, such as those used for personal care, leading to what we know as silver oxide and silver sulfide, respectively.
This process is accelerated in environments with higher levels of pollution, as a result of simple contact with the skin or the use of fragrances and cosmetics. However, there’s nothing that can’t be solved.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF SILVER JEWELRY
To avoid the appearance of these stains and maintain its original luster, it is advisable not to store jewelry in places that are too humid or, on the contrary, excessively dry. This will help us avoid constant cleaning. However, when they do need to be cleaned, it will not be necessary to spend a lot of money or invest too much time; simply follow the proper techniques and use the appropriate products.
As ironic as it may sound, contact with our skin also allows the jewelry to maintain a minimum luster and not to oxidize, since this friction polishes the metal, thus eliminating most of the micro-scratches and stains that may appear.
Taking into account all of the above, we recommend removing your jewelry before sleeping, when washing your hands with corrosive products, or when engaging in sports.
HOW TO CLEAN SILVER
Jewelery cloth: specifically, a special cloth to clean silver that will help us remove dirt and polish our jewelry when it hasn't aged too much.
Soft bristle brush: it will be of great help when we need to reach the nooks where chamois can't. Brushes for sensitive gums and baby brushes are ideal.

Baking soda paste: mix a 2:1 ratio of baking soda to water. With the resulting mixture, gently rub your jewelry and then rinse and dry it with a soft or microfiber cloth that will not scratch your pieces.
Toothpaste: the recommended toothpaste is one that is non-abrasive and free of whitening agents. Not the gel kind, but rather traditional toothpaste that contains baking soda. If you moisten the surface of the jewelry beforehand, the paste will spread and work its way into more crevices.
Ultrasonics: since this type of machinery is not commonly found in homes and is not suitable for all types of jewelry, we highly recommend visiting a professional jeweler for any cleaning involving ultrasonic cleaners.. These are extremely fast and act with remarkable precision and delicacy, being especially effective at removing organic matter attached to the jewel, but they present complications when it comes to rust removal. For this reason, ultrasound is not a substitute but an ideal complement to the various existing cleaning systems.
When in doubt, we strongly recommend taking your jewelry to a professional jeweler who knows how to clean it properly, ensuring it regains its shine without any hassle.
